Sarah that was such a beautiful story thank you! It reminds me of an older woman who lives in my apartments who I met a few weeks ago. I took two minutes out of my day to talk with her and could see by the look on her face I made her day, which made mine too. Life does not always have to be so complicated as simple little stories like this show. I feel my life was enriched by meeting her just as I know your life is richer for your experience with one old man. Thanks again Sarah. :)

Thanks! That sounds like a class I would totally take. I'd love to know what films you cover. The Golden Age and el Nuevo Cine Mexicano (90s forward) are the best periods in Mexican cincema for me. It's in these eras that you really see film makers taking themselves and their audience seriously. A lot of the stuff in between lacked artistic integrity and were often all about old skeevy men, buxom blondes and crude humor. This format is what killed the Golden Age.

A-fucking-men. Don't get me wrong, I understand the sentiment of "I don't cheer when my enemy dies". But some people just need to get killed. And when these degenerative individuals (the Hitlers, the Osamas) finally get their comeuppance rational members of society are going to breath a sigh of relief.

I have to agree with you. I mean, I can't vouch for anyone, but I don't think the celebration comes from the death as much as the symbolism behind it. Most of the people that gathered in New York and at the White House were young people. The fear that came with the 9/11 attacks and this idea that we live in a constant threat of terrorism seem like normal parts of our lives now. For me, what felt thrilling, was that for the first time in a long time a lot of people felt proud of this country and the notion that maybe we're moving in the right direction, towards a better, less scary place.
